I don’t usually have an interest in history and politics, but I have been watching a series on Netflix called World War II in Colour. It has made me see the ongoing battle between good and evil in a whole new way. Watching the events unfold leading up to WWII as well the six year war I saw distinct parallels with the abortion industry today. It is clear as crystal!
Prior to the war in 1939, France and England did a whole lot of nothing, they took a very passive stance on Germany taking over multiple countries in the west. Finally, France and England stood up but they were wishy-washy and indecisive about what to do – they were completely unprepared for battle. Had they watched the signs of the times, it would’ve been obvious that Hitler’s extremist right-wing views were a dangerous threat to society.
However, on the day that war was declared, Winston Churchill came into office as the Prime Minister of England. This was no coincidence. Winston stood against the Nazi regime and blatantly refused with absolute certainty to bow to Hitler’s agenda. Winston, due to his faith in God, knew how to distinct good from evil. Observing how Hitler hated the Jews and refuting his request to “leave England in peace if Hitler could overtake western Europe,” Winston would have nothing of it.
England, though defeated over and over again in battle continued to stand. They did not give up. France even bowed out, agreeing to side with Germany because they were outnumbered and overcome with terror. Under Winston’s leadership, England did not give up. They would not surrender.
Winston requested reinforcements from the United States, but they didn’t want to get involved. He even tried calling on Stalin in the Soviet Union, but that led to nowhere. The prospect of winning the war was looking dim for England, but they DID NOT GIVE UP.
In the tension between good and evil, attack and counter-attack, opposition and resistance, I saw something amazing that I had never observed earlier in my knowledge of modern history: I saw God’s goodness and faithfulness weaved into every battle over the whole war.
The French resistance, gathering and rising up, “insiders” deciding to fight for good rather than evil. Those who secretly hid and protected Jews, knowing their very lives were at stake. Letters and lines of communication between countries and battle strategists as England tries to decode Germany’s messages. German’s former ally and now enemy, the USSR, wearing down the Germans bit-by-bit, little-by-little. Taking more ground as Hitler grows weary and vulnerable over time.
How does this relate to abortion? In 1973, Roe v Wade was issued by the US Supreme Court legalising abortion. From then, we have seen this evil industry seek to kill, steal and destroy the value of human life. This time, it’s not Jews – this time, it is unborn babies. In 1938, before WWII had begun, Adolf Hitler occupied Czechoslovakia. It was the first of many conquests that were to come in his grand plan to seize power over Europe and wipe out the Jews.
Not unlike Roe v Wade, the first of many laws sought to expand abortion rights, Nazi Germany gained ground one country at a time. First, it started with Austria (early term abortion), then Czechoslovakia (mid-term abortion under threat of the life of the mother) and then Poland (full term abortion and post-birth infanticide in the event of a botched abortion). Do you see where this is going?
Countries passively looked upon what was happening and didn’t want to get drawn into war. Understandably. But later, as the war progressed, they realised they had to fight instead of freeze, otherwise their citizens were in danger of being overrun by Germany and its allies as their army grew bigger.
In WWII, 6 million Jews were executed because they were deemed “non-human.” Today, the Church observes quietly, not saying a word for fear of being politically incorrect. 60 million babies have been executed because they are deemed “non-human.” This is the war we are in right now.
Go watch the documentary and be encouraged as you see Winston and his allies, REFUSE to give up, willing to go down in history defeated rather than accept Hitler’s abhorrent scheme. Winston Churchill’s sheer determination and stubborn refusal to stay silent in the face of evil overshadowed his likely fears for the future of mankind. His conviction in Christ enabled him to stand up against one of the evilest movements in history.
Today, we face the exact same battle. The themes are exactly the same – power, greed, hatred, shedding of innocent blood, but also strength, resilience, steadfastness, endurance, conviction and justice.
Be encouraged! Because of one man, Winston Churchill, many men stood and eventually conquered Hitler and his wicked regime. It took time; the battle was long, many lives were lost, there were both victories and defeats. But, we won. WE WON!
As we stand together in unity and faith, have confidence that we WILL win this war too; the battle in abortion clinics worldwide. Our weapon is prayer, the word of God and the Holy Spirit who gives us strength and endurance.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” – Romans 8:28
“Therefore, put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground and AFTER YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING, TO STAND” – Ephesians 6:13
Let’s stand and when we are tired from standing, KEEP STANDING!!!
