We are already familiar with the fact that sugar sets in motion a strong reward mechanism in the brain, which can lead to addiction similar to the one from hard drugs like cocaine or morphine, changing the morphology of brain cells. The types of sugar to be most aware of are “free sugars” – those that your body absorb faster and are usually added to drinks or food, or naturally present in honey, syrup or even unsweetened fruit juices. The advice is to limit the consumption of “free sugars” up to 25grams a day!
