Meet Mindi | Freelance Writer
The most expensive part of having kids is all the wine you have to drink.
I am a freelance writer, blogger and content producer and have written for Mamamia, Mouth of Mums, Mama Disrupt, Essential Baby, Beauty News and Women’s Health & Fitness (a complete list of media contributions can be viewed here). Before writing full-time and working for myself, I spent the previous 15+ years being an office drone just trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
I finished my HSC in 2000 (the same year as the A2K bug), left home and landed my first real job in the big smoke of Sydney. My role entailed stuffing envelopes and answering phones, during a time where the only marketing channels were direct mail, billboards, radio and TVC. MySpace wasn’t even a thing back in the day, so we were 100% legit real grassroots marketing.
Having worked for both SME and large corporate organisations within the private and public sector, I much prefer working for myself due to the flexibility it offers. After getting my obligatory post-grad qualifications, being chained to a desk and pulled into too many useless meetings, I decided to start my own hustle. In 2015, following the birth of my son Elias, I became a freelance writer and now it is a full-time gig. I am a self-appointed CEO, Cleaner, Office Plant Waterer and Tea Lady.
My areas of expertise as a professional freelance writer are as follows:
- Digital Content & Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
- Corporate Communications
I was born in Seoul, South Korea and a few years later adopted by a true blue Australian family. When I was old enough to understand, I pretended to look surprised by the news that I wasn’t the biological daughter of my white ‘fair dinkum’ parents, but was actually adopted from another country with fellow yellows that all had the same bad haircuts.
Fast forward to today and I now have two men in my life who I absolutely adore – my husband and son. There are still more tiny humans to add to our tribe so I hope to have at least enough for an orchestra so we can turn pro and go on tour as a family band. We live in the ‘burbs of Western Sydney and do all the unglamorous things that ordinary, everyday people that 99% of the population do. These activities include but are not limited to:
- Making a living and paying bills
- Grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning and washing
- Raising a decent human being
- Looking at memes, sharing memes
- Trying not to go crazy in a chaotic world
And other fun KPI’s that make up being an adult.
I am an ordinary person, but the premise of BLOGS X BANTER is to create, curate and share extraordinary stories. There’s unlimited greatness, potential and tenacity in everyone and my hope in producing online content is to communicate that in the most engaging way possible.
