We live in an age where there have never been more things to fear and worry about about than ever before. Everyday we hear story after story of crime, natural disasters, political uncertainty, economic changes. Then we worry about our finances, and how we’ll pay our bills, our kids and whether they’re developing properly, or we worry about job security, shaky relationships at work with colleagues… The list goes on.
The antidote to worry is pray. Why carry the heavy weight of all your troubles when there’s a God in heaven who loves you and cares for you watchfully? Take every single worry and concern of yours, and give them to God. Pray about everything, and let His peace unfold in your heart and mind.
My favourite verse that I live by each day is this: “Do not fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
